ReplyDeleteMy favorite holiday memory was when my son was first born... my grandparents (his great grandparents) came and stayed at our home for the holidays... everything was magical about hosting them!
ReplyDeleteOne year my Grandma made me an entire three story yellow colonial dollhouse, but she disguised it so well that I never suspected what it was. She gave me this tiny little box, with this tiny little key in it and told me to find what it went to. Well I searched for about ten minutes without success. She had hidden it under this giant box and when I got back to the living room she had taken the box off. I was floored! It was so intricate that I knew it must have taken her forever, I felt so special!

A Christmas memory: my brother died in September of 1998 and I was pretty sad that Christmas. I must have said to someone that I wasn't going to get a tree and wasn't into celebrating. I came home from work a week before Christmas, turned on my porch light, and an artificial Christmas tree was in front of my door and a plate of cookies was under it. I just stood there and cried. It was one of the most thoughtful things anyone has ever done for me and it brightened my spirits during that sad Christmas season.

ReplyDeleteJust followed - my favorite Christmas memory is when I was a little girl, and the only thing I asked for for Christmas was the bell from santa's slay (read the Polar Express a few times that year). It was at the foot of my bed on Christmas morning with a handwritten note I'll keep from Santa forever. That was the last year I believed in Santa, but that memory is priceless.

ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite memories is getting to sleep in the living room with my sister on the pull-out sofa bed during the holiday break. It seemed like such a treat to not have to sleep in our beds. We would lay there before we fell asleep staring at the lights on the Christmas tree and listening to the sound of the fire crackling! Perfect and magical!

ReplyDeleteMy favorite holiday memory was 3 years ago...It snowed for 2 weeks straight, and we never get that much snow here! Instead of having a two week break from school, it was three. We just hunkered in, watched lots of TV and Christmas movies, wrapped presents, played in the snow, went for snow walks at night...it was the best, most relaxed Christmas ever. I still wish for another one like it.

She worked as a factory worker for Ray o Vac her whole life and would save like crazy so that she could host Christmas Eve. She did all the baking and cooking and we would show up in our new Christmas dresses and have dinner and then each of us got a gift from her and we each gave her one! Wonderful life of service.
