Salisbury Steak with Carmelized Onions

I have to say I adore comfort food and this is old school comfort food, something
my parents ate when they were younger and food that I grew up on. My mom
always served meat and potatoes and comfort food brings me back to my youth.
There is nothing in this world like my moms slow cooked spaghetti. One day I
will share that. I hope when my kids get older they look back on my food with
with a big smile and pure comfort. This is nothing fancy just pure delicious.

                                                    Salisbury Steak with Carmelized Onions

                                                    Meat :

                                                    1 1/2 pounds ground beef
                                                    1/2 cup bread crumbs
                                                    1 egg
                                                    1/4 cup ketchup
                                                    2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
                                                    1/4 teaspoon dried mustard
                                                    salt and pepper
                                                    1 teaspoon garlic powder

                                                    Onions :

                                                    I large onion, sliced
                                                    2 garlic cloves, minced
                                                    2 cups beef broth
                                                    1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
                                                    cornstarch
                                                    water
                                                    pepper,

       1) Combine all of the meat mixture in a bowl and form into 6 oval patties. Heat a large
skillet over medium high heat and cook meat on both sides until done. Take the meat
out and place on paper towels and drain all the fat in the pan.

       2) In that same skillet with 1 tablespoon of olive oil put in your onions and cook
until tender. Add your garlic and cook for a minute more. At this point you can add
your beef broth, worcestershire sauce and pepper. Cook for about ten minutes.
In a small bowl mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and 2 to 3 tablespoons of cold water.
Mix well and add into onions and cook for a few minutes or until thick.

      3) Return steaks to onion mixture and place onions on top and cook a few minutes.

Serve with mashed potatoes and corn, peas or green beans.
